WELLNESS DOSES (Doctor-Prescribed Only)

⚠ These doses are educational and must not be marketed as therapeutic. They represent commonly used concentrations in clinical integrative medicine settings supervised by physicians.

A. STANDARD WELLNESS INFUSION RANGE

0.1–1 g/kg per infusion

Most wellness clinics utilise 5–20 mL of 99% DMSO, diluted heavily.

B. COMMONLY USED STARTER DOSE

  • 5 mL of 99% DMSO added to an IV bag (250–500 mL NS)
  • Infuse over 60–90 minutes
  • Monitor closely for odour, warmth, and BP changes

C. MODERATE DOSE RANGE

  • 10–15 mL per infusion
  • Diluted into 500–1000 mL NS
  • Infusion time: 90 minutes – 2 hours

D. HIGH-END CLINICAL RANGE

DILUTION & ADMINISTRATION

Because DMSO is a strong solvent, dilution is critical for safety.

Minimum dilution ratio

1 mL DMSO : 10 mL normal saline

Preferred: 1 mL DMSO : 25–50 mL normal saline

Infusion Bag Options

  • 250 mL NS (low dose)
  • 500 mL NS (moderate dose)
  • 1000 mL NS (high dose)

Infusion Rate

  • Start slow: 20–40 mL/hr for first 10 minutes
  • If tolerated, increase to 100–250 mL/hr

Monitor

  • BP every 15 minutes
  • Heart rate
  • Respiratory rate
  • Signs of warmth, chest tightness, nausea
  • Allergic reaction
  • Garlic odour confirmation (normal)

ADVERSE EFFECTS

Common & expected

  • Garlic-like breath/body odour
  • Warm sensation
  • Skin flushing
  • Mild sedation
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth

EMERGENCY PROTOCOL

If any serious reaction occurs:

  1. Stop infusion immediately
  2. Keep IV cannula in place
  3. Assess vitals
  4. Apply oxygen if indicated
  5. Notify supervising doctor
  6. Prepare for ambulance transfer if deteriorating
  7. Document fully and file incident report

POLICY & COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

AHPRA/TGA Advertising Rules

  • Do NOT state DMSO "treats", "heals", "cures", "detoxifies", or "reverses disease"
  • Only factual, non-clinical descriptions allowed
  • Must NOT advertise its IV use publicly

Clinical Governance

  • Doctor prescription required
  • RN/Paramedic may administer under medical direction
  • All doses must be charted
  • Informed consent mandatory
  • Heavy dilution mandated due to solvent properties

Storage Policy

  • Store at 20–25°C
  • Protect from light
  • Cap tightly (DMSO absorbs moisture readily)
  • Do not use if crystalisation appears (warm gently to dissolve—never microwave)
