# GAMMA AMINOBUTYRIC ACID ## MEDICATION DETAILS **Drug:** Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) **Form:** Injectable solution **Concentration:** 25 mg/mL **Vial:** 10 mL multidose vial **Total content:** 250 mg ## Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) WELLNESS DOSE ### IM Dose - 0.5-1ML - 12.5-25mg **Injection technique** - **Site:** Gluteal or deltoid - **Rate:** Slow IM over 30–60 seconds - **Frequency** - once a week ### IV Dose - 0.5-1ml = 12.5-25mg **Total** - Do NOT administer more than the wellness dose indicated. ### Administration Requirements - **Dilution:** 100–250 mL 0.9% Sodium Chloride - **Method:** IV infusion ONLY - **Rate:** Infuse over 30–60 minutes minimum - **Monitoring:** Continuous BP, HR, symptom observation ### IV Use is PROHIBITED if: - Dose exceeds 25 mg - IV push or bolus is attempted - Patient is on sedatives, opioids, alcohol - Monitoring or resuscitation capacity is unavailable ## EXPECTED EFFECTS - **Onset:** 10–30 minutes - **Peak:** 30–90 minutes - **Duration:** 2–6 hours ### Common effects - Calm, relaxed state - Reduced anxiety or mental hyperarousal - Mild sedation (dose-dependent) ## CONTRAINDICATIONS & CAUTIONS ### Absolute Contraindications - Known hypersensitivity to GABA - Pregnancy or breastfeeding - Acute intoxication (alcohol, sedatives, opioids) ### Relative Contraindications / Use With Caution - Concurrent benzodiazepines, opioids, hypnotics - Hypotension or autonomic instability - Severe respiratory disease - History of paradoxical reactions to calming agents ## ADVERSE EFFECTS & MANAGEMENT ### Common (usually mild) - Drowsiness - Injection site discomfort - Light-headedness ## INDICATIONS FOR WELLNESS USE Injectable GABA may be used as adjunctive support for: - Acute stress or anxiety states - Sympathetic nervous system over-activation - Sleep initiation difficulty - Nervous system dysregulation - Menopausal autonomic symptoms - Burnout / fatigue with heightened arousal ## OBSERVATION & AFTERCARE - Observe patient 15–30 minutes post-administration - **Advise:** - No driving or operating machinery for several hours if sedated - Avoid alcohol or sedatives same day
